Long rods and heavy lures are the choice of anglers in deep sea fishing. But what if you are not heading to deep water? Are there any alternatives for your favorite rod and lures? Yes, there is. Choose right fishing line for a palomar knot.
Palomar Knot is one of the simplest, best-known knots for tying a fishing line to a lure or hook. The knot is strong and can be used with monofilament, fluorocarbon, or braided fishing lines.
The key to tying this knot is to use a tight loop. This will help create a more secure knot.
To tie the Palomar Knot:
1. Run the line through the eye of the hook or lure twice while applying light tension. If using braided line, melt the tag end with a match to seal it and prevent unraveling.
2. Bring tag end up across standing line creating a loop. Make sure this loop stays large enough to accommodate your fishing lure or hook.
3. Feed tag end through loop and leave a tail about 2 inches in length.
4. Make five turns with the tag end around standing line, working toward the eye of your hook/lure. Then take the tail and run it down behind the standing lines that lead to your hook or lure.
5. Slide the loops of the knot closer to eye of hook/lure to tighten. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers can help tighten the knots.
Choose right fishing line for a palomar knot and enjoy your trip with your buddies!
